As a Lead Level Artist on Borderlands 4, I had the exciting opportunity to help translate the environments of Borderlands into a vast, seamless world. In this role, some of my key responsibilities included:
-
Leading our team of stellar level artists, including organizing, mentoring, tasking, and reviewing work;
Laying the groundwork for the world map and helping plan and block out initial spaces;
Working with design to help plan the world map during initial pre-production;
Working with art direction and content art to establish visual guidelines for the different world factions;
And working with tech art to establish and roll out workflows and world-building tools, especially ones new to UE5 World Partition.

Working with the team at Gearbox on Borderlands 4 has been a wonderful experience and an honor. There are so many talented people that contributed to the world of Kairos, and so much work represented in every space and every screenshot, it would be impossible to credit them all. Concept artists, content artists, level designers, lighting artists, VFX artists and others all worked alongside me and the other level artists to bring this world to life. To name just a few people I worked especially closely with:
-
Daniel Voyer-Lessard, Brandon Wilson, and Brad Sierzega, my fellow lead level artists;
Stephen Cole, our lead lighting artist;
Jacob Christopher, our lead content artist;
Adam May, Christopher Neeley, and Tris Babayan, our art directors;
and David Ruiz and Corey McKemy, our lead level designers.
